Visa and Money
When coming to Uzbekistan make sure you have the valid visa with you. Once in Uzbekistan, you have to register at the local OVIR (Office of Visas and Registration). Most hotels provide OVIR registration for their guests. If your stay is short (it used to be 72 hours, but you should not really stay for more than 24 hours without registration), you don’t need OVIR registration. However, keep your hotel receipts with you just in case.
The address of the Tashkent city OVIR:
Tchehova (Чехова) street 22, Tashkent
Tel.: +998 712 569586 or Tel.: +998 712 569614
The national currency of Uzbekistan is sum. You can change your foreign currency at many exchange points located in hotels, banks and shopping areas. Although you could get a better exchange rate on the street, it would be illegal to do so. Have your tourist guide or your local friends to help you with the money matters.
