Travel to Uzbekistan
The best way to travel to Uzbekistan is by Uzbek Airways and Turkish Air.
Uzbek Airways operates a fleet of new Boeing and Airbus for most of its international routes. Uzbek Airways offers the largest number of flights to Europe and CIS from Central Asia. Most international flights arrive and depart from the Tashkent International Airport, which is currently under reconstruction.
Turkish Air operates flights from Tashkent to Istambul three times a week. Booking in advance is recommended.
Travel to Samarkand
Uzbek Airways operates daily flights from Tashkent to Samarkand. The routes are serviced by ageing soviet Antonov (propeller) and Yakovlev (jet) small-size planes. The flights to Samarkand depart from the Tashkent Domestic Airport located next to the International Airport. The return fare is around US $80 for international travelers. The flight is one hour.
The alternative way to travel to Samarkand in by a private taxi that can be hired at the Tashkent Bus Station (Avtovogzal, rus.). Expect to pay around US $20 without sharing and around US $5 if willing to share with 3 other passengers. The trip is around 4 hours.
Some travel agencies operate their-own coaches for tours to Samarkand and other cities of Uzbekistan. It is also possible to get a regular coach ride from the Tashkent Bus Station.
